“I look forward to representing specialty crops across the U.S. [It's] a great honor, and I'm excited for the new adventure."

The FCIC is a wholly owned government corporation that administers the federal crop insurance program. The Board of Directors is responsible for the management of the FCIC. Berg added that she is hopeful she can establish a line of communication that's beneficial for a variety of farmers nationwide.

"Now we're going into a drought situation. Crop insurance becomes pretty viable and meaningful for farmers just to stay in business. It gets to be hard times, so hopefully I can communicate the need for crop insurance to stay affordable for farmers."

What are some of the biggest hurdles currently facing wheat growers?

Berg says low prices is the chief issue on the minds of growers across the Northwest and across the country.
