Washington FFA Kicks Off Convention With New Executive Director
The Washington FFA has taken over Pullman this weekend for the organization’s 95th Convention and Expo. And this marks the first convention for Executive Director Tamara Whitcomb, who took the leadership role in November.
Whitcomb is no stranger to the FFA organization, serving as a member in high school. When it comes to growing and strengthening the state’s chapter, she noted she wants to help bridge the gap between rural and urban Washington. She noted that every community is different, but all have their own, unique connection to agriculture.
“That includes anything from veterinary science to, having forest management and urban settings, environmental science and also making sure that those members feel like they are also just a part of the group," Whitcomb noted. "So, no matter where the FFA members are located in Washington, they would have equal opportunities to enjoy the experiences in their own community.”
Whitcomb said future plans not only include cultivating youth leaders, but also assisting those that teach FFA members across the state.
“But to help grow our chapter leaders, I think that in the future I would like to make sure we expand the opportunity for chapter officers to attend a specific training," she said. "That way they feel more prepared for running their chapters and they also feel like they have a connection to chapters across the state.”
