The Washington FFA hosted the National Leadership Conference over the weekend.  Leaders from Washington, Oregon Idaho and Alaska FFA chapters were in Pullman.  Abbie DeMeerleer Washington FFA Executive Director says during the unique weekend, the national FFA organization brings in trained facilitators to help those new state officers get educated how to deliver content, how to run events and how to be an effective state officer team.  She told the Washington Ag Network hosting the event is not only great because it reduces travel time, but is also provides the Evergreen State the opportunity to showcase Washington Ag to other states.

“One evening [we] drove out to Kamiak Butte, so they got to see some of the rolling hills of the Palouse, the canola, the wheat the barley and the garbanzos, they got to see all of those crops and commodities that we raise and are really proud of, and then look out from the top of Kamiak on even more of what Washington ag fields have to offer.”

DeMeerleer says these regional efforts are a benefit for FFA across the Northwest.

“So, the comradery, the connection and the common vision that’s borne out of a regional training like this is just tremendous and it really helps grow and advance the mission of FFA.”

DeMeerleer added the weekend was a good opportunity to show off the Washington State University campus.  She said this was the last year of the NLCSO in it’s current form.  She told the Washington Ag Network next year, National FFA will change up for format, moving away from the regional concept.
