The month of May is starting very warm across the Northwest.  And that’s a welcomed relief for the Ag Community.  As National Weather Service meteorologist Marilyn Lohmann points out, April was slightly below normal temperature wise and a better wetter than usual.

“With most locations getting above normal rainfall, in fact the Tri-Cities, Moses Lake, and Wenatchee regions got twice as much as normal.”

As we start the month, Lohmann is expecting sunshine and temperatures above normal.  That could change slightly, with a chance of isolated showers Saturday afternoon and Sunday.  But Lohmann said for the most part should enjoy warm weather for the first full week of May.

“And those soil temperatures are in the low to mid-60s and some upper 50s will warm about seven degrees over this next week with much warmer air temperatures so continued good germination, and development for almost all of the fruit and vegetables.”

Lohmann said not only is May starting out warm, the long-range forecast calls for warmer than normal, and dryer than normal weather for the Northwest through August.
