“Domestic and international consumers and customers are increasingly demanding that dairy products and all food products be sustainability produced. It puts us at a competitive advantage if we can make the case,” said U.S. Dairy Export President, Tom Vilsak, before lawmakers lasts week.

Vilsack said his industry is a leader in the Ag sector regarding use of practices and technologies to improve sustainability.

“I think we can continue to expand significantly the development of ecosystem markets that will help generate the revenue necessary to adopt these technologies. And we need to promote new technologies.”

In areas such as seed genetics and improved manure management.

“In which we can use the fiber, the water, the chemicals, and materials from manure to create new opportunities and new businesses opportunities in rural America,” Vilsack noted.

Which would require increased private and public research efforts to advance these technologies.
