Ag Secretary, Tom Vilsack, recently noted the impact of SNAP, is more than just helping to feed people.

"For every dollar that we spend in SNAP, we generate economic activity"

Vilsack compared the numbers to figures from when he served as USDA head during the Obama Administration.

"Way back when, when I was Secretary, it was about $1.80, I think, for every dollar that was spent. It creates jobs, people buy more at the grocery store more has to be shelved, employment. More has to be transported, employment more has to be packaged and processed, employment."

Meanwhile he noted there are also benefits to Ag producers.

"And every dollar that's spent on the SNAP program 15 cents or 16 cents of that dollar goes to a farmer who produces the food that goes on the shelf in the grocery store. And so it's a benefit for farm communities and stabilizing income impact of farm communities. So there is a rippling effect in these programs that should not be underestimated."
