USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack spoke to the National FFA Convention for the final time last week, and he implored the young people to recruit.

“There are opportunities everywhere in agriculture throughout the United States. We want people to be excited about agriculture. We want them to understand what agriculture does every single day for this country. We need that to continue and to do that we need to make sure that we include everyone in the agricultural experience.”

The ag story was a common theme in Vilsack’s remarks and telling that story to the general public.

Vilsack also noted that this isn’t the job of just one type of grower.

“You need to tell the story that whether you are a big farmer and have a large scale commercial operation or you’re a small farmer who is selling to a farmers market; you’re equally the important to the American economy and equally important to telling the agricultural story.”

Vilsack told the FFA members to use their excitement and passion for agriculture to open the doors and welcome everyone into the industry.
