The USDA’s September Meat Production and Prices forecast showed little change from the prior month.

"Tightening of beef and pork supplies," said World Ag Outlook Board Chair Mark Jekanowski.  "Minor changes to broiler and turkey production, mostly rounds to zero for those species.”

When it comes to prices from August into this month.

“Steer prices for 2026 we lowered by $8 per cwt, now at $237.35 per cwt," Jekanowski noted.  "Hog price forecast, we're also seeing a little bit of pressure there based on recent prices; 2026, we lowered our forecast by 50 cents per cwt, now at $64.82 per cwt. Turkeys, on the other hand, we've seen some recent strength the past few weeks, strong enough that we raised our 2026 turkey price forecast by 4.3 cents per pound.”
