USDA Looks To Help Farmers Improve Cash Flow
USDA announced last week it is making changes aimed at getting farm credit into producers’ hands faster, a move the Department said could help farmers manage operating costs and make investments in their operations.
“One of the biggest challenges farmers and ranchers face is access to capital,” said Under Secretary Richard Fordyce. “The Trump administration is putting Farmers First by streamlining and modernizing the loan making process to get much-needed capital into the hands of farmers and ranchers who work so hard to build and preserve their legacy for generations to come. We’ve seen historic demand for farm loans over the last two years, demonstrating the importance of accessible, affordable credit for America’s farmers and ranchers.”
FSA is permanently adopting its Application Fast Track program for lower-risk direct-loan applicants. USDA says the program has cut processing time by about eight days for qualifying borrowers. The agency is also giving experienced lenders more authority to approve guaranteed loans, reducing paperwork and speeding up the process.
USDA says a new electronic system for guaranteed loans is expected in early 2027.
The Department added for farmers and ranchers, faster access to capital could mean quicker financing for land, equipment, production expenses and day-to-day operations, potentially improving cash flow and financial stability across the agricultural economy.
