Robert Lighthizer, U.S. Trade Representative, announced the U.S. will officially look to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement, or NAFTA.

The next step is consulting with Congress on negotiation objectives that will need to be published at least 30 days prior to the start of negotiation.

“Following the TPA timeline, the United States will be ready to pursue full negotiations with Canada and Mexico as soon as August 16th.”

The move was praised by the National Corn Growers Association, Dairy Foods Association, the National Milk Producers Federation, the U.S. Dairy Export Council, U.S. Wheat, National Association of Wheat Growers and many other agricultural groups.
