China’s normalized trade status with the U.S. is now threatened by both President-elect Trump and a key member of Congress.  Trump is threatening not just steep tariffs on Chinese goods but revoking China’s routine trade status or its Permanent Normal Trade Relations with the U.S. that allowed its 2001 entry into the WTO.  Joining the PNTR push is CCP Select Committee Chair and Michigan Republican John Moolenhaar.

“Our plan is to revoke the Permanent Normal Trade Relationship status of China," Moolenhaar told News Nation.  "Since China entered this agreement with the United States and the world, they’ve cheated on every aspect. They’ve stolen intellectual property. They’ve committed all sorts of violations—dumping, overcapacity.”

Also raising the specter of a renewed Ag and manufacturing trade war with China, including tariffs.

“We’re also recommending tariffs, especially on some of the sensitive technologies and sectors. And we need to make this trading relationship fair,” Moolenhaar added.

President-elect Trump now threatens an extra 10% China tariff over its deadly fentanyl trafficking on top of his campaign vow of 60% on all Chinese goods.  Add to that 25% duties on Canada and Mexico.  The hardball tactic aimed at drugs and illegal immigration will be overseen by Trump’s pick for Commerce Secretary, businessman Howard Lutnick--not  Trump’s choice for U.S. Trade Representative, Jamieson Greer.
