After an intense wrap up to winter, spring is starting off very gently across the Inland Northwest.  Marilyn Lohmann with the National Weather Service said while temperatures have been slightly above average for this time of year, it feel a lot warmer than that because it was so cold to start the month of March.

“We had some even below zero temperatures still in the Basin, and then that snowpack just took forever to warm up and melt it.  So, we were thinking that February was the unusual month, but March kind of carried along with that theme as well.”

Lohmann said the warmer weather, and snow finally moving out of the area, has led to warmer soil temperatures, with reading between the mid 40's and even low 50's.  As far as soil moisture is concerned, Lohman said she’s surprised how low many of those figures are considering the healthy amount of snow the region received in February.

Looking ahead to the next week, Lohmann said we can expect temperatures near or slightly above normal, with on and off showers.
