For the first time since 2008, the National Onion Association will have a national conference in the Tri-Cities.  The summer-time even takes place Wednesday through Saturday.  The NOA’s Kim Reddin told the Washington Ag Network this week’s conference will cover a variety of issues important to growers across the Northwest and across the nation.  It all starts with a Reception Wednesday evening at the Red Lion in Richland.  Then on Thursday, the morning will be devoted to committee meetings.

"And the afternoon, it’s very educational in its nature," Reddin said.  "We have several guest speakers that are going to bless us with some information.  One of the being the director of the Spokane regional office for the USDA Risk Management Agency, Ben Thiel.”

Topics Thursday include, Whole Farm Revenue Protection, Diseases Management and Inset management on the Columbia Basin.  Many of the field tours will take place Friday in the Horse Heaven Hills area.

“We’ll look at some onion fields, we’ll be at the WSU Research Farm, we’re also going to be in a couple of packing sheds, so, we’ll get to see both sides of that, both the field side as well as the packing side.”
