Lasting and substantive. That’s the description from Ethan Lane, Executive Director of the Public Lands Council when he talks about the changes he is working to implement with the Trump Administration.

“That’s the goal. We want to be as good at changing policy in this administration as the Obama administration was at hanging us with bad policy in the last.”

Lane cited concerns over environmental regulations such as the Endangered Species Act, the National Environmental Policy Act and the Federal Land Policy and Management Act. Lane’s focus is creating policy that will stand up in courts because of the number of lawsuits that come over environmental issues.

In particular, Lane said they want to make sure they deal with wolves, sage grouse, bears and much more.

“All of the different items that have been on everybody’s agenda for so long and that so many ranchers are struggling under, we want to relieve that pressure. But we don’t want to spend so much time on that that we forget to set ourselves up for a better position for the next few decades.”

Lane said the concept of “sue and settle” is mostly going to stop because this administration will fight lawsuits in court.
