Just one year ago the snowpack entered April in reasonably decent shape and by the end of the month drought concerns were back after a very warm month.

USDA Meteorologist Brad Rippey said so far this spring there hasn’t been a huge loss of the snowpack.

“We are seeing some additional precipitation, some of that in the form of high elevation snow.”

So while many of us are tired of all the cool weather and rain, it has provided a bit of delay to the melting window.

Rippey said they only concern now is a rapid heat wave after a major storm that could cause flooding concerns.

“But it’s looking increasingly unlikely that we’ll have a warm, wet storm that would cause very widespread flooding. We’re just getting too late in the season to get a really strong storm.”

Most recent estimates show that there will be enough water to supply each producer with a normal water supply.
