We recently told you that the Washington state Department of Agriculture is warning of a possible bird flu outbreak, similar to what was reported seven years ago. Its become a nationally issue, as concerns are growing about a potential highly-pathogenic avian influenza outbreak.

"Recently cases have been confirmed in Europe, Asia, and Africa. And we're really concerned that we might see those types of viruses also come in to the United States through migratory birds," which is why Julie Gauthier with APHIS, said the timing of Bird Health Awareness Week campaign is significant.

The campaign reminds both commercial and backyard poultry operators about bio security measures to protect their flocks.

"Everyone who cares for poultry has a role to play in keeping our birds safe from infections disease like avian influenza."

More details about bio-security efforts can be found by visiting APHIS' Website.
