Potts Honored For Work at Grain Inspection Program
Late last month, Washington State Department of Agriculture Director Derek Sandison handed out the first Director’s Citation Award of his administration. And the award to Don Potts Eastern Region Manager if the Grain Inspection Program, who said he was honored by the award. Potts said exported grains is such a large portion of goods exported out of Washington, and the Grain Inspection Program works to keep that supply moving along.
“It’s mandatory, it’s a law that says anything that’s being exported has to be officially inspected and weighed by either FGIS or their designated, delegated agencies, which we are.”

Potts added as Washington grains continue to expand across the globe, education becomes more and more important.
“You know, it’s an unbelievable amount of energy and money dollars that go into exporting wheat and it starts with Eastern Washington with the producers growing the specific varieties that they do, soft white, hard red winter, hard red spring, white club winter.”
The Director’s Citation Award is handed out by WSDA directors at their discretion and was created to recognize achievement that benefits the ag industry. The last award was handed out June 2014.
