Earlier this year, the USDA announced an effort to help alleviate traffic pressures at the Port of Oakland, with what Department officials called a Pop-up site. Fast forward to last week, when USDA announced plans to open another Pop-up location, with this one being located in the Pacific Northwest.

"We're expanding that opportunity now to include the port of Seattle."

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says an announcement will be made in the coming weeks on both funds for payments to add companies an cooperatives when placing containers of American grown commodities at the port of Seattle pop-up site and details regarding the application process.

"We are partnering with the NW Seaport Alliance to essentially enhance access to a pop-up site that will be designed to accept either dry agricultural products, or refrigerated containers."

The port of Seattle Pop-up site will serve as a temporary storage facilities to be more quickly loaded onto ships at export terminals and help both reduce port congestions and supply chain disruptions.
