Now Is The Time To Plan For the Irrigation Season
With the mild weather, many growers are looking ahead to the growing season perhaps a bit earlier than normal. For many producers across the Northwest, you cant' talk agriculture without talking about irrigation.
When it comes to the season ahead, Marv Davis, the Skone Irrigation store manager in Royal City, WA, said all the buzz is focused on the latest tech.
“Right now, the technology thing, everybody's kind of leading towards that, trying to get more efficient, push everything forward, being able to see things more with telemetry off your phone so you don't literally have to be out in the field every breathing minute of the day," Davis said. "You still need to be out there checking it.”
The Latest Technology Is More User Friendly
Davis said one of the newest products they have, the RC3 from Reinke, has been simplified to make it more user-friendly. He added RC3 works off of satellites, making it more accurate, making it easier to operate from your phone. Davis said the easy to use interface will be welcomed news for growers.
"When I farmed, I've used just about every type of technology out there and our older stuff was a little bit cumbersome," Davis said. "But the newer stuff that we have right now, it's getting better, simpler, more user-friendly as we go. And I think this new system, the RC3 especially, that's coming out is going to be the most user-friendly on the market. So easier for older people that aren't technologically savvy, and the younger guys are going to catch on to it like nothing flat.”
Is Your Operation Ready For Water This Spring?
Davis added, whether getting new equipment, or fine tuning existing, now is the time for producers to think about irrigation, and make sure they’re ready when water is delivered.
