Peterson Reminding Dairy Farmers To Check Out Updated MPP
Producers can now sign up for the new dairy revenue protection program. The program will allow farmers to purchase coverage on milk production. House Ag Committee ranking member Collin Peterson encourages farmers to take a look at the program, and USDA agents to be active and have conversations with producers.
“The one thing that we have not seen at this point is the pricing. There is a subsidy that’s, I don’t know, 58% of the premium or something like that. But, we don’t know what the actual price is.”
Peterson says once the new Farm Bill passes, farmers will have the ability to utilize several of the dairy programs, including MPP.
“A producer will be able to be in all three programs. They’ll be able to be in the insurance program, they’ll be able to be in the MPP program, and they’ll be able to be in the Livestock Growth Management program. They can be in there in all of those programs on the same milk if they want to.”
Peterson said the milk market has been lacking price certainty for many years, so he urges producers to take the time to discuss these new options to determine what may work for them.
