In near-unanimous fashion, pear growers in Washington and Oregon voted to keep Federal Marketing Order 927.

The marketing order allows the fresh and processed pear committees to collect assessments and use the funds to collect and distribute vital size, grade and availability information throughout the season as well as providing money for important pre and post-harvest research which are used by Pear Bureau Northwest.

Manager of the Fresh Pear Committee and CEO of Pear Bureau Northwest Kevin Moffitt said they, “are pleased to gain the continued support and confidence of our grower members.”

Pear growers vote every six years on whether to keep the marketing order, which is the longest continuously running one in the U.S. having been established in 1939, in place.
