Partners in Advocacy Leadership Looks to Promote Ag

April Clayton of the Chelan Douglas Farm Bureau is the first Washingtonian to be selected by the American Farm Bureau’s Partners in Advocacy Leadership program.

She said it is a two-year, executive-style leadership program to help them become better advocates through networking and training.

“I hope to become a better advocate. There are a ton of misconceptions surrounding farming and not only that, but what also sparked me to do it was how little I actually knew about farming and ranching.”

Clayton is the only tree fruit grower in this year’s class of 10 producers that include wheat, livestock, nursery producer, lettuce and many others.

The program can really help producers and the ag industry in general according to Clayton.

“I hope it gets our voice to be heard, specifically in Congress would be great with the Farm Bill coming up in 2018. Let the Congress people know what we go through every day and why we need crop insurance, why we need money for research.”

The Chelan Douglas Farm Bureau meets the first Tuesday of every month at the Washington Apple Commission building. They are also hosting a BBQ on August 22^nd at Hydro Park for anyone interested in learning more about farming.
