Utility customers are a prime target for scammers, this time of year, but Pacific Power urges you not to fall victim.  Simon Gutierrez said Pacific Power sees an uptick in scam reports during the holidays.

“We are contacted by customers, pretty much on an annual basis, alerting us to what they consider suspicious activity; someone trying to pose as a Pacific Power representative and obtain some sort of payment.”

He says there are several “red flags” you should listen for, if you get a call from someone claiming to be from your local power company.

“One indication that they should not continue that call and to report this call, is if you have the caller asking to state your account number," Gutierrez said.  "Our customer service employees will always have your correct account number.”

Gutierrez added demands for immediate payment to prevent a same-day service shut off should also be reported, as well as callers using threatening or hostile language.
