Oregon’s Brewers Guild says 2024 was one of the worst years ever for the craft beer industry.  Guild President and Brewmaster Sam Pecoraro said the economic impact is felt throughout the state.

“The brewing industry in Oregon supports 50,000 jobs, and a lot of those jobs are agriculture related. We’re the second or third biggest hop-growing region in the United States and employ a lot of people there.”

He said 35 breweries, pubs and taprooms closed in 2024, which leaves the Ag community often holding the bag.

“A lot of these growers and farmers are quite long on past inventory and that’s putting them in a really tough position.”

Pecoraro blames rising labor costs, and more people choosing to take part in events like “Dry January.”  He said some breweries try to adjust, focusing on non-alcoholic options, like N.A. beer or hop water.
