The Oregon Legislature's short session was gaveled open on Monday.  Republican State Senator Bruce Starr said Oregonians want results.

"People aren't looking for speeches or slogans, they're looking for signs that we've heard them, at the grocery store, at the gas pump, around the kitchen table when the bills come due," Starr said.

Transportation funding will be one of the biggest issues during the legislative session.  Democrats want to move a gas tax referendum to the May Primary.

Republican Senator, and gubernatorial candidate, Christine Drazan says the initiative petition promised a November vote.

"Those particular voters, Oregonians across our state, believe that they have a promise from us, from our system, from our government, to fulfil our duty now that they have done their duty," Drazan said.  "I hope we will respect that. I hope we will abide by that."

Legislators will also consider a proposal to remove millions of dollars from the state’s FFA program.

The short session can last as long as 35 days.
