The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife said a wolf killed a livestock guard dog in the southern part of the state earlier this week.  Investigators say a livestock owner in Jackson County woke up early Monday morning to the sound of his Tibetan Mastiff being attacked near his home.  The rancher investigated and found the dog in a nearby field, severely injured.

The dog eventually died Monday evening.

ODFW said the dog had at least 25 canine puncture wounds on his body, as well as scrape marks to both hind legs.  Investigators said the location of the injuries, the paired canine puncture spacing, severity of trauma and wolf tracks on the property show that the guard dog was attacked by a wolf.
