New versions of the Oregon Wildfire Hazard Maps are now out.  The state is assembling these to help property owners learn their risk of wildfire.  The maps show nearly two-million property tax lots in the state and how they rate for wildfire risk.

"It's to assist prioritizing fire adaptation mitigation resources, basically financial assistance for these vulnerable locations to wildfire," said Derek Gasperini with the Oregon Department of Forestry.

This is the second version of the map. Gasperini said changes were made for pastureland, irrigated fields, and forest fuels.  The number of lots in high hazard and wildland-urban interface were also reduced.

"There was about 120,000 in the first version of the map and with those changes there's now about 106,000 property tax lots out of Oregon's 1.9 million tax lots that are in those dual criteria."

The goal is to help property owners make their homes and other structures more resistant to wildfire.  Future building codes could require property owners to make changes.  Packets will be mailed to property owners in high-risk areas and they'll have 60 days to appeal.
