Northwest Leading The Nation In Barley, Spring Wheat Plantings
As spring planting continues, we’ll turn our attention to spring wheat and barley numbers. Brad Rippey, USDA meteorologist said most of the progress reported in the past week has come from the Northwest.
"Nationally, 6% of the spring wheat planted by April 12th, one point behind the five-year average, equal to last year at this time," Rippey said. "And barley planting now at 13% complete; 10% is the five-year average and 12% was the number last year. Washington State leads for spring wheat planting, 36% complete by April 12th. and Idaho leads for barley planting progress 31% complete on the 12th of April.”
And when it comes to 2nd place for those commodities, just flip the state. Currently, Idaho is #2 in the nation with 32% of its spring wheat planted, while in barley, Washington is in the 2nd place with 24% of its crop in the ground.
