Super Bowl Sunday is one of the bigger days to consumer alcoholic beverages and an increasing larger component of the consumption is craft beers.

Trade Manager for the Oregon Department of Agriculture Theresa Yoshioka said the state’s craft industry has exploded.

“Here in Oregon, we are the number one state for craft beer brewing. We have 261 brewing operations across our state. We don’t just brew beer, we enjoy beer also. We are the number one consuming state of craft beer per capita.”

And what has been good for the craft brew industry has been good for the Northwest hop industry which supplies the key ingredient in those beers.

Yoshioka said there’s a new trend in beer consumption.

“We’ve all become accustomed to the growlers and the growler stations, and the convenience of being able to buy your beer and fill up your growler. Recently, I have seen crowlers coming onto the scene. This is much like a growler, only it’s in a can.”

Whatever you end up drinking on Sunday, just be sure to safe if you’re driving home and if you drink alcohol do not drive.
