Late last week, Congress broke for their Easter Recess.  And the Senate did not vote to confirm Sonny Perdue as the head of the USDA.  That means the Department of Ag will be without a leader until the end of this month, or perhaps early May.

“I’m disappointed in that,” said Representitive Dan Newhouse.

Newhouse says while the confirmation vote of Neil Gorsuch was important, the lack of movement on Perdue puts the USDA in a challenging position.

“It holds us up as far as moving forward with important work that the agency is engaged in.  So, Mr. Perdue is going to have a lot of work ahead of him when he does get confirmed,”

Newhouse adds he is hopeful the Senate can hold a vote on Perdue as soon as they return from the Easter Recess.  During his Easter Break, Newhouse will hold Listening Sessions in Moses Lake on Tuesday April 11th, the Lower Yakima Valley on Thursday April 13th and in Okanogan County Thursday April 20th.
