After a Massachusetts granola maker was forced to take “love” off their packaging as an ingredient by the FDA, the National Milk Producers Federation says they need to be equally strict in milk labelling.

President and CEO of NMPF Jim Mulhern says it’s clear the FDA has the time to enforce regulations and that they, “Hope that the agency’s enforcement action against a small New England baker for misusing food labeling standards, innocuous though this violation might be, is a prelude to FDA taking action against the myriad companies that manufacture hundreds of dairy imitators that also misappropriate federally-defined terms such as ‘milk’ and ‘yogurt.’”

This is a continued conversation that the dairy industry is trying to have with the Food and Drug Administration on plant-based products that call themselves milk, some the industry says is a violation of the government regulations.
