American farmers are feeling the pressure of high fertilizer costs, and the National Farmers Union is working to take that message to Capitol Hill.  Layla Soberanis, NFU senior government relations representative, said the organization has thrown its support behind the Fertilizer Transparency Act.

It provides a way, it does not perhaps fix the immediate solution or create a solution immediately, but it does provide an avenue for farmers to look at fertilizer prices in the immediate," Soberanis said.  "So, it's something we are working on and hopefully that will lead to other solutions.”

When it comes to the Administration’s recent comments about plans to boost domestic fertilizer production, Soberanis said NFU would like to see some details.

“We know that Secretary Rollins did provide a framework for how that would be rolled out," she said.  "So, really just waiting and seeing how we can be helpful and what that really entails. And I think internationally as well, other countries are trying to find solutions for their farmers within their country. So, the fact that they're also hearing it and these international meetings and bringing that information back home is something to look at.”
