The National Farmers Union is accepting applications for their Beginning Farmers Institute.

The program’s goal is to cultivate the next generation of producers and help them understand their farm’s place in agriculture and the legacy of farmers and ranchers in the U.S.

The 2016-17 classes will take place over three weekend sessions, one in Washington D.C. and two in California starting in September.

NFU President Roger Johnson says they are trying to help a new generation of producers with an aging American farming population but, “farming can be an overwhelming business to get started if you don’t have the right tools.”

The Institute’s focus is hands-on training on a variety of aspects such as business planning, land acquisition, marketing and much more.

Applications must be postmarked by April 30th.
