As the summer session was wrapping up in Washington D.C., several lawmakers including Dan Newhouse were hopeful the House would vote on legislation updating immigration policy.  The reform, would replace the current H-2A system with an H-2C, which Newhouse and other Ag lawmakers say would be a huge benefit for farmers and the migrant community.  While he’s disappointed lawmakers did not vote on immigration reform, he’s using the recess to call colleagues to explain the importance of the H-2C program.

“You know, I’m trying to be pragmatic about this as well.  I didn’t want to have a vote and have it fail either, so , the commitment to allow us to have more time to help increase support in the end, I hope, will be a good thing.”

Newhouse added the Farm Bill should be front and center this week, as House Ag Chairman Mike Conaway is expected to visit Washington, to update the Northwest about the lattest taking place in D.C.
