On Thursday, the House voted 227 to 205 in favor of tax reform legislation.  If approved, H.R. 1 would be the first major overhaul of the tax code in more than three decades.  Dan Newhouse, who voted in favor of the Resolution says the reform will benefit many across Central Washington, including the agriculture community.  He said it will allow farmers to immediately write off the full cost of new equipment, and

“This reform will repeal the unfair estate tax which hinders family farms as well as small businesses from passing on the success of a lifetime of hard work on to the next generation.”

The reform legislation has an uphill climb in the Senate.  And Newhouse noted Thursday’s vote was just the first step in a lengthy process.

“Albeit, it’s a big step, but it’s a step in the process, and I will continue to work with my colleagues in the House and in the Senate and continue to work with the White House to make sure this legislation gets to the President’s desk by the end of the year,” Newhouse said

“Our plan to lift the tax burden off Americans puts more money back in people’s paychecks and helps Americans go from garage to global success. We’re bringing jobs back from overseas and strengthening Main Street. Our plan simplifies the tax code, closes loopholes, and creates peace of mind for Americans everywhere." Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers said.

“It’s time to get our economy booming again,” said Rep. Reichert. “Families across Washington and Americans around the country want more money in their pockets, higher wages, and to have the confidence they can save for their future. Today, after years of fighting to give American families a better deal, we have released a tax plan that puts American workers and families first, supports our job-creators, and strengthens America’s competitiveness across the globe.”
