Earlier this week, the House Appropriations Committee Subcommittee on Energy and Water approved markup of legislation that would end the current additional spill over the Lower Columbia and Snake river dams.  Representative Dan Newhouse says he was very happy with the subcommittee’s decision, saying this will allow lawmakers another opportunity to stop the unnecessary spill if HR 3144 does not move forward.

Newhouse said if the Appropriations route is exercised the additional spills would stop next year.  He noted lawmakers must to something to stop this poor judicial decision.

“Unnecessary burden to rate payers in the Pacific Northwest that really know no benefit to the fish that we all want to protect.”

While there are now two options to bring the additional spills to an end, not everyone in the Evergreen state is on board.   He said he continues to work to convince Governor Jay Inslee and Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell that the additional water is not best for people and fish.

“ I’m not sure that I’ve made all of the progress I need to yet, but we are continuing to be engaged, with all of my colleagues from Washington, in fact all of the northwest states.”

Newhouse continues to ask everyone across the Northwest to contact federal lawmakers and let them know your thoughts on the additional spillage, and how this decision will impact your farm and operation.
