There’s been speculation by some in different ag circles that the new Farm Bill will not pass on-time.  Some have said the new Farm Bill won’t pass until 2019.  Representative Dan Newhouse recently acknowledged he’s hear those rumors, but cannot substantiate them.  In addition, he said he doesn’t believe they are true.  The Central Washington republican says House Ag Chairman Michael Conaway is determined to get the Bill voted on in time for the summer.

“It’s a big lift, I will admit that.  There’s a lot of aspects to that.  I wasn’t here for the last one [in 2014], but it was not an easy thing to accomplish.”

Newhouse added that many may not realize the heavy lifting that’s taken place in the background this entire year.

“This whole 2017 has been preparing for the new Farm Bill in several ways, holding hearings on different aspects, different titles.”

The current Farm Bill is scheduled to run through September 30th of next year.
