Newhouse Recent Counts Show Gray Wolf Should Be Delisted

Both the Washington and Oregon departments of Fish and Wildlife reported an increase in the gray wolf population this month.  At least 126 wolves have been confirmed in Washington, 137 in Oregon.  Representative Dan Newhouse said the statistics show strong growth in the Northwest wolf population, which he says confirms what he’s been saying for years.

“As far as the Endangered Species Act goes, the story of the gray wolf is something we should truly celebrate as a success in restoring a species to a viable population.”

So, where do we go from here?

“That should in my mind help us to remove the gray wolf from the Endangered Species List, like we plan to do in the state of Washington, and the federal, and both departments of fish and wildlife, would like to return management of the wolf to the state,” Newhouse added.
