Newhouse: Farm Bill Will Pass Soon, Either In Late ’18 or early ‘19
There’s a lot of work for the lame duck Congress to get done and not a lot of time to do it. In addition to the 2018 Farm bill, lawmakers need to address the 2019 appropriation bills and other pieces of legislation between now and the start of recess, which for the House is December 13th and December 14th in the Senate.
What happens if Congress does not pass the Farm Bill by the year’s end, and will the process be extremely slow in a Congress where Democrats control the House? Representative Dan Newhouse said while they will continue to try and get a Farm Bill to President Trump by the end of the year, he says he’s confident the Farm Bill will be passed quickly in 2019, thanks to soon-to-be Ag Chairman Collin Peterson.
“And he told me that if we don’t get it passed in December, he will early on in the year, get the Farm Bill passed. He is determined to not let it linger long into 2019.”
Newhouse said other topics the GOP would like to address during the lame duck include DACA and tax reform.
