The House of Representative broke for their August recess last week, without taking action on the Ag and Legal Workforce Act.  Several lawmakers, including Central Washington’s Dan Newhouse were very supportive of the legislation, which would replace the current H-2A with an updated H-2C.  Newhouse acknowledged the lack of movement is frustrating.

He says this reform is something he’s worked long and hard for.  Newhouse added it’s important whatever legislation the House approves, can be successful in the Senate and move on to President Trump.

“I’m determined that during this time in our districts, we can get the number necessary to have that vote.  That’s what I’m determined to do and take this time to our best advantage and get the support necessary.”

Newhouse added reform is years overdue, and lawmakers must do what’s best for American farmers.

“It’s been a long time since Congress has been able to pass any kind of immigration reform, let a lone reform to our Ag labor laws.  And if it take a little more time to educate more members about it, then that’s what we have to do.”
