Congress has six month to come up with a permanent fix to DACA.  It remains unclear at this point what kind of impact this decision by the Trump administration could have on the agriculture community, nationally or locally.  Representative Dan Newhouse told the Washington Ag Network while the DACA decision won’t impact many current workers, it could start a conversation leading to a long term immigration fix.

“In the bigger picture, having the spotlight on DACA puts it on all of the immigration issues.  There may be an opportunity in this for us to make progress on all immigration issues.”

Newhouse acknowledged it’ll be difficult to bring legislation forth in the coming months, but he confident lawmakers can make progress.  He added Congress has the support of president Trump and former Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly.
