The clock is ticking in DC to fix DACA.  Earlier this year, President Trump gave lawmakers until March to come up with a permeate fix for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.  Central Washington’s Dan Newhouse said it’s time for members of both parties to work on a long term solution.  He noted this is what happens when executive orders are used to kick key issues down the road.

“Temporary executive orders can be given and then undone by a new Administration.  What that does, it leaves these young people facing uncertainty and broken promises.”

Newhouse added the U.S needs to secure its boarders, and ensure immigration laws are upheld.  But he said that doesn’t need to be done at the expense of young people.

"We can do all of that and still recognize that these young people who grew up in America, they live here, this is really the only life that they know.  They contribute to and want to contribute to our communities.  They are assets to our nation.”

Last week, Newhouse joined 13 other Republican House members calling on Congress to come up with a legislative fix to DACA by the end of 2017.
