New Fertilizer Option Available For NW Wheat, Canola
It’s a constant theme in this ag economy; doing more with less. Ron Restum with Ostara said it’s in that mindset that they introduce Crystal Green to the Northwest. He said Crystal Green delivers more nutrients to the plant, allowing some growers to reduce their application rate.
“While we say it's the most sustainable phosphate, as part of its efficiency story, the fact is that when you put it on the field, it never leaves the field. It's not going, the nutrients are not going to enter the creeks and rivers and dissolve and cause issues," Restum said. "Nor is it going to leach. So, you could apply all the phosphate you ever dreamed of on the soil and know that it's not going to leave that soil.”
Crystal Green Is Very Safe For Canola, Wheat Seeds
Restum noted that not only is Crystal Green good for the farmer’s pocketbook, it’s also good for the environment, even improving soil health over time. He added the benefit to Northwest wheat and canola growers comes in the form of seed safety.
“A lot of the wheat, and a lot of the canola goes down, air seeders and has to go right on with the seed, they've really seen the value of Crystal Green because it has virtually 100% seed safety," he said. "So, you can put all the fertilizer you want, and not be limited by the amount. For instance, if you're going to be using a typical ammonium phosphate, you know that you can't put on as much phosphate as you want because you'll do too much seed damage. With Crystal Green, you could put on as much. You could double your rate, maybe triple your rate and not have any seed damage.”
Made In The USA Means No Delivery Delays
Restum added since Crystal Green is produced in St. Louis, Northwest growers don’t need to worry about the impacts of tariffs and trade wars on their input needs.
