A new app created by the National Food Market Maker program in partnership with the national Farmers Market Association and Ag Marketing Resource Center is connecting consumers with farmers markets.

Darlene Knipe, Program Director at the National Food Market Maker Program, said the app is tied to your growing zone.

“It can be very specific about seasonal products and when they’re at their peak freshness. In addition, it offers two more pieces of information. It will not only tell an individual what products are at peak freshness but it will also identify the local growers that produce that product and give you a list of all the nearest farmers markets.”

Knipe said the app will allow consumers to buy local, and support the local economy, but it also connects farmers to market opportunities.

The app is available now, and Knipe said to download the app just go to WhatsInSeasonApp.com and just save it to your phone or desktop.

“If you’re a producer or a farmers market who would like to have your information shared by way of this app, you can either register through the app itself. There’s an opportunity to register your market or your farm. Or if you’re already registered in Market Maker, your information is included.

Market Maker, which created the app, started as an online directory of farmers and food suppliers to give consumers a one-stop-shop to find local foods and develop markets for producers.
