Last month the winners of the National Wheat Foundation’s 2017 Wheat Yield Contest were announced and it included several that work with WestBred.

Dr. Jeff Koscelny, Global Wheat Commercial Strategy Lead said the results of all the growers was phenomenal.

“Wheat’s got a lot of potential. We’ve always known it’s got a lot of genetic potential and these growers are really doing their best to pull that potential out, have a marketable grain and put more bushels in the bin.”

More than 2,800 growers competed in the National Wheat Yield contest.

Koscelny said contests like these are important because wheat is still so important to the country’s economy as one of the biggest industries in the U.S.

“It’s been a really tough environment out there to turn a profit in wheat but certainly if you can drive yields up maintain that quality, a lot of potential there to turn a profit on that acre.”

The 2018 National Wheat Yield contest registration is now open on the National Wheat Foundation’s website.
