This week, more than 65,000 FFA members will take over the city of Indianapolis for this year’s national convention.  National FFA president David Townsend said the theme of this year’s convention stresses achievement and community service.

“The theme is I can, we will.  So it demonstrates individually we are capable, we have our skills an abilities we’ve been gifted with, but again, when we combine those with the abilities of others, we can make an even bigger impact.”

National FFA CEO Mark Poeschl said not only does FFA develop leaders, it also develops agricultural advocates.  He said that becomes more and more important as generations become more disconnected from the farm.

“They don’t understand that food and agriculture are tied together.  So, our students play an important role not only in producing and marketing healthy and abundant food products, but also in telling the story of agriculture through advocacy efforts.”

Indianapolis will host the convention through 2024.  On Thursday the canal that runs through the heart of downtown, was died blue in honor of FFA.
