Mild Weather Expected Across Much of U.S.

According to NOAA, much of the U.S. can expect a mild winter.  The agency released its seasonal outlook this week that covers December through February.  The forecast expects mostly warmer-than-normal weather this winter for the western two-thirds of the country, with no areas of the U.S. expected to see prevalent cooler-than-normal conditions.

As far as the Inland Northwest is concerned.

“They’re expecting above normal temperatures and kind of seasonal precipitation," said National Weather Service meteorologist Marilyn Lohmann.  "We’d been talking about the weak El Niño that’s still expected.  We’re expecting below normal precipitation, but it doesn’t look like that signal was as strong in the forecast.  But I think overall will probably trend to near-to to below-normal precipitation.”

As for precipitation, much of the lower Southwest, Mid-South, Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions have the greatest chance to see wetter-than-normal conditions this winter.
