This is National FFA week, a time local chapters and the national organization use to showcase how the club has changed.  Kristy Meyer, with the National FFA office in Indianapolis, told the Washington Ag Network the FFA is vital in the 21st century.

“Especially in our society where we have 235 unique careers in agriculture.  FFA plays a key role in helping to see that talent pipelined to make sure we have employees for all of those jobs in agriculture.”

Meyer said FFA enjoyed record national membership in 2016, but she adds the can’t rest.  And they’re constantly looking to the future.

“Make sure that we’re very including, that we have diversity and inclusion and we reach out to all of the students across the country, who might have an interest in leadership or an interest in agriculture.”

Some use this week to recruit middle school kids, encouraging them to participate in high school, some use the time as a thank you to the community that supports them, some will thank alumni with pancake breakfasts, and much more.

Nationally, all members are encouraged to post on line #FFAWeek when showcasing what they are up to.
