As lawmakers in DC look to come together on a new Farm Bill, questions surround what programs will stay, what will be trimmed and what will go.  Cathy McMorris Rodgers says crop insurance is a must for Northwest agriculture to survive.  The Eastern Washington Republican says crop insurance is an incredibly important safety net for Washington farmers, especially wheat growers.

“They need to have assurance that they’re going to have crop insurance year by year.  So, I’ve joined the coalition of members that is helping talk to other members and help raise the awareness to the importance of crop insurance.”

McMorris Rodgers has also been in contact with Mike Conaway, saying she wants to be part of the conversation that works to keep, and possibly expand crop insurance in the 2018 Farm Bill.  It is expected full House discussion of a replacement Farm Bill will not occur until early next year.
