The Benton-Franklin County WSU Extension office is now accepting applications for anyone interested in being a Master Gardener.

County Director Gwen Hoheisel said this is a great program.

“It is an opportunity for people to volunteer in their community and give back to the community through ways of being inspired by their love gardening.”

There is also a master gardener community garden in Kennewick and other projects more than just being able to help in someone’s garden.

Hoheisel said there is a combination of online class work and sessions in a classroom or workspace to be officially certified.

“One of the main benefits is giving back to the community but you also increase your knowledge immensely. It’s a great way to be able to build your knowledge with science-based educational classes.”

Previous Master Gardeners have also noted that it’s a place to make lifelong friends and share a passion with people in your community.

The deadline for applications in January 17th. For more information, visit the WSU Benton-Franklin County Office's website.
